Seniors Week – Shed Open Day — Wed 7th October

October 5, 2015 By Paul L'Huillier

Men’s Shed Open Day — As part of  Seniors Week (this week) the Shed is holding an Open Day on Wednesday 7th October between 10am and 2pm.

This is to provide members, friends and visitors a chance to come down and have a look at the work being done to out-fit the internals of the Shed. It’s also an opportunity to have a chat with committee members about Men’s Sheds generally and what is planned for our Shed. You also get a ‘guided tour’.

Tea, Coffee and some nibbles will be available so please come along — and bring a friend.

Opening of the Beechworth Men’s Shed — Some members are planning to attend this function on Wednesday 28th October. If interested please let secretary Paul L’Hullier know by Tuesday 13th October. Contact: Mob: 0400 056 247 or Email <paullhuillier@bigpond.com>. We plan on taking a few car loads of men across.

Bookcase

No it’s not a Coffin. It’s an Ian Sharp project that ended up as a very impressive bookcase for the Shed. Thanks to Warwick Mitchell for all the help.

Fundraising for the Sutton’s

September 22, 2015 By Paul L'Huillier

The UKV Lions Club is conducting fundraising activities for Bill & Yvonne Sutton over the next couple of weeks.

The Lions Club have asked the Men’s Shed for assistance with the fundraising. This will take the form of a raffle for a trailer load of wood or a $200 sales voucher from Bunnings. Does this sound familiar to our own fundraising Footy/Netball Gate Raffle. We are the raffle ticket selling experts so so lets get behind the Lions Club and help them out.

They need assistance to sell tickets from Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October from 9am to 12noon each day in Mount Beauty.

Nick Brown (a Lion & also a Shed member) is co-ordinating this activity and would like to hear from you. Please telephone him on — mobile: 0417 014 431 or email: <nbrown14@bigpond.com> if you can assist. Nick will meet the volunteers each day at 9am in Hollonds St, opposite Season Cafe, with chairs, a table and raffle tickets etc.

Lets get behind this Lions initiative and support one of our own Shed members (Bill).

Make a Donation — UKV Lions has opened a bank account at the Bendigo Bank and if anyone wishes to make a donation to this fundraising effort, the details are:

  • BSB # 633-000
  • Account # 155632672
  • Account Name:  Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club – Community Account.

The Shed’s fourth AGM is being held on Friday 18th September 2015 at the Mt Beauty Senior Citizen Clubrooms, Tawonga Crescent, Mount Beauty starting with the usual monthly BBQ at 12 noon followed by the AGM.

Come along for the social camaraderie and to support this unique community project. When completed the Shed will provide a valuable and remarkable asset for the UKV community. Currently we have 62 individual and four organisations as members.

Defibrillator Workshop — Paramedic/Ski Patroller Glen McIlroy will be conducting this one hour workshop on Wednesday 9th September at 12 noon at the Shed. It’s important that as many members as possible attend this session so they are familiar with the AED’s (Automated External Defibrillator) operation. AED’s use simple audio and visual commands and are designed to be simple to use for the layperson.
