Latest Shed News — June 2018

June 12, 2018 By Paul L'Huillier

  1. BBQ & Committee Meeting — Neither of these are scheduled for June.
  2. Football/Nteball Gate Raffle — We have completed six manning’s of home games this season. Three to go – all at Dederang. Contact Dick if you are prepared to assist. Help is really appreciated. This is a major fund raiser for us.
  3. Committee — Several committee members are currently on holidays and a couple more will be heading off soon.
  4. Membership — We currently have 70 individual members and three organisations. We have approximately 15 attending on our work days.
  5. The Shed, Lions Club & AGL — Currently these three organisations are working together to replace all the seats around the pondage. The very competent Rod Hyde is the leader of this project and its well on schedule.
  6. Hospital Opp Shop — We have been working with the Opp Shop through Barb Talbot to repair items for re-selling, donating some items to them for re-sale. They are selling bags of our kindling wood for us on a commission.
  7. Uniting Church Opp Shop – Warwick Mitchell has made some items of furniture (shelves/cabinets) and we have also donated a few boxes of clothes that we had acquired.
  8. Community work — A work party helped clean out some items in a house of a deceased persons estate. A trip to the tip with two members old refrigerators and hot water service was also done. The Shed provided eight men to man the two drink stations for the local half marathon in May.
  9. Mt Beauty Cubs/Scouts — Dick, Irvin and Len spent two hours one evening assisting sixteen Cubs/Scouts to produce a hanging key board. They learnt skills and safety aspects.
  10. Shed extension (12m x 9m) — The committee through our Shed Construction Manager (Ian Howley) has been negotiating with the Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre and Alpine Shire to transfer some of the leased land to the Shed so this can happen. This is about to be finalised. Quotes have been received for initial works i.e. excavation, road fill and concreting the foundations. Funding is also being sourced.
  11. Soundproof glass window — This has been installed between the workshop and recreation room – the old window was kept in place. It’s made a significant difference to reducing the noise coming from the workshop. Funds for this project were obtained from a AGL Energy Community Grant.
  12. Projects in progress — Warwick is working on a frame to house a football jumper. Len continues to be our furniture restoration guru having restored a rocking chair, a number of chairs and is currently renovating a large wardrobe. Dick having rekindled his metal lathe skills has created a drive shaft for a client and is continuing Reg’s welding work on the large steel rack that will be used to store our steel outside. Ian Erbacher cutout 20 guitar shapes that were used at the Music Festival and is currently learning to use the wood lathe under Warwick’s tutelage. Mal has done extra work on the dust extraction system. Mark being our bike guru continues to repair and sell old bikes. Irvin has finalised the production of more ladder golf game sets. Brian Keeble has been working on a Code of Conduct for the Shed as part of a Health & Safety Policies. Roland is progressing in learning the intricacies of CNC Router so he can produce signs for Parks Vic. Shane is a willing helper for any job going. Herbie is renovating a cabinet for his family. Alf has become a bit of an expert on using the wood lathe (also under Warwick’s tutelage) and has produced a number of items.
