Get Online Week – Learn Digital Skills for free

The Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre is conducting two – two hour sessions to assist Seniors with acquiring some knowledge of digital skills. This is all part of ‘Get Online Week’.

  • When: Monday 22nd October 2018
  • Sessions: 10:00 am to 12 noon AND 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
  • Lunch: This is provided FREE of CHARGE by the Centre – 12 noon to 1:00 pm.

For Shed Members’ Partners — The Shed Committee is aware that many member wife’s are the ones who access email, text messages and get on the internet (via computer, tablet or mobile phone) and hope that they pass on Shed communications to their partners. We want the men to be able to do this digital stuff as well so please bring the above opportunity to the attention of your husbands and encourage them to attend.

The Centre is also offering FREE of CHARGE‘ ‘Be Connected with your computer, tablet or mobile phone’ sessions for Seniors just beginning on the digital journey. You will have a personal tutor and sessions are one on one or one on two and can be arranged to suit your schedule. Again contact the Centre on 5754 1166 or drop in Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm to arrange. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn at your pace and at no cost. Hope you make the most of it.


Advance Notice — Living with Anxiety & Building a Resilient Mt Beauty session is on in Mt Beauty Monday 26th November 2018 at the Auditorium 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Information session covers: understanding the role of anxiety, stress and worry, signs and symptoms, anxiety disorders, what’s helpful and not helpful, relaxation techniques and tools, mindfulness, breathing etc and where to go for more information/help. Session is Free and presented by the Anxiety Recovery Centre of Victoria.

BBQ Lunch/General Meeting – Friday 19th October 2018

  • Start Time: 11:30 am for a 12 noon sit down BBQ .
  • Where: The Shed – 2 Tennis Court Ave Mount Beauty
  • Cost: $7/person
  • Who is invited: Members, potential members & visitors.

Program:
• BBQ — Again the Shed will be providing many BBQ delights. There will be the usual socialising, camaraderie and fellowship. 

Note — The early start will allow for Shed inspection, project updates, demonstrations and general chit chat on all things to do with the Shed.
Food will be served at 12 noon.

Major Shed News

  • Shed Polo Shirts — Members who have ordered shirts can pick them up at the BBQ this week. Cost — Shirt with logo and name $31.50. Badges are $8.00 each. Payment methods — Deposit by Direct Credit into the Sheds bank account. Treasurers preferred method please – for bank details click [HERE] or place money in an envelope with your name on it and hand in at the Shed. No money no shirt.
  • Blair’s Hut Day Trip (13th December 2018) — Blair’s Hut is in the West Kiewa Valley and 40 km from Mt Beauty and is accessed via the West Kiewa Logging Track which is a very acceptable 4WD track. The plan is to invite members who don’t have a 4WD vehicle to be passengers in a vehicle driven by a competent driver. It’s a whole day trip so you will need to bring your own food, snacks, drink, thermos, hat, wet weather gear etc. The camp/picnic area (Diamantina Stockyards) that we park at is very nice. You may need to walk 1.5 km to the hut from there. If you have never had the opportunity to see some of our high country this is it. Membership Fees Due — Membership fees have been kept the same as last year i.e. $35.00 individual and $50.00 for a community organisation or business. Shed Operating Days & Times — Tuesday & Wednesday 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Morning tea is at 10:30 am and is a great time to social and to get to know the other men. Gold coin donation thank you. The Lunch break is at ~12:30 pm. You are most welcome.

Red Cross Luncheon – Mon 15th Oct Tawonga Hall

Shed members come along and support this great organisation with the funds going to support the Indonesian Earthquake & Tsunami Appeal.

  • Monday: 15th October 2018
  • Time: 12 noon for 12.30 pm
  • Food: Cold meats, salads and desserts.

There will also be a raffle with several great prizes.

Cost — $25.00 pp at the door, or an earlybird price of $20.00 if tickets purchased in advance.

Free Film – Wed 3rd Oct 2pm: Snr Citizens Clubrooms

You are invited by the Alpine U3A to a FREE community screening of the film  ‘Finding Your Feet’ – see review below. It is on this Wednesday 3rd October 2018 starting at 2pm sharp at the Senior Citizens Clubrooms, Tawonga Crescent, Mt Beauty. The screening is part of Seniors Week in Victoria.

Red Cross will be supplying afternoon tea at the interval break. A donation would be appreciated to go to Red Cross.

AFL Grand Final … at the Shed (Sat 29th Sept) & Polo Shirts for sale

Another Shed Social Happening.

Come along for an afternoon of Grand Final viewing on the Shed’s 65” TV screen.

  • When: Saturday 29th September 2018
  • Time: 2:00 pm for a game start at 2:30 pm
  • Who’s playing: Collingwood (Magpies) V West Coast (Eagles). It will be a great game.
  • Half-Time: Treats will be arranged (no charge). Tea & Coffee anytime. Bring your own alcohol & chair if you wish.

Last year  was a great social afternoon. You don’t have to be a ‘diehard’ football follower to enjoy the game and the company.

Don’t sit at home on your own to watch the game come down to the Shed.

Shed Polo Shirts for sale

The Shed has arranged through Karen & Campbell Ford (Mt Beauty Hardware & Drapery Store) to supply members with Polo Shirts embroidered with the Shed logo and members christian name. Separate badges that can be placed on a work shirt or cap are also available.

These shirts are designed to be worn on those occasions when members are out and about helping in the community, at garage sales & community markets, monthly BBQ’s, out of town Shed workshops and gatherings with other Shedders in the region.

Shed News – AGM & other

The Shed’s seventh AGM was held last Friday 21st September with 24 members in attendance.

Thanks to those members who assisted with the BBQ in Mark Hardidge’s absence i.e. Rod Hyde, John Driver, Graeme Caulfield, Shane Clooney, Ian Erbacher and Len Sims.

Brian Keeble did a fine job as the acting Chairperson for the AGM in Dick’s absence. Thanks Brian.

Coming events — November BBQ with a talk on Arthritis by Dr Mark Zagorski and possible excursions to Blairs Hut in the West Kiewa Valley and the Rover Chalet on the Bogong High Plains with transport provided. A visit to the Tawonga South Vintage Car Museum has also been flagged. More details about these events to come.
