  • Where: The Shed – 2 Tennis Court Ave Mount Beauty
  • Cost: $5/person

Major Shed News

  • Men’s Health Sessions Program — With the help of Maureen Ryland (Alpine Health) the Shed has arranged for professional health personnel to talk on relevant health issues every two months starting this Friday. The talk will following the sit-down BBQ. Sessions will be conducted for 30 minutes (including questions & answers).

The topic — Palliative Care Awareness and will be presented by the highly qualified Maureen Hardidge (RN, RM, Graduate Diploma & Masters Palliative Care, MCNA). The mention of Palliative Care to a person who is unwell usually invokes a feeling of panic or distress for them and their family. This is commonly due to a misguided community perception of the philosophy and role of Palliative Care in a persons disease trajectory. Palliative Care does not always mean death is imminent, although it has to be acknowledged that late involvement does at times mean that death follows closely to the referral for Palliative Care being made.

The purpose of the discussion on Friday is to try to demystify Palliative Care and explain its role and benefits.

  • Pondage ‘any’ Pet Walk — Sunday 22nd October starting at 10:00 am. This event is put on by the Mt Beauty & District Community Bank. Entry is $5.00 and proceeds go to the Men’s Shed. The Men’s Shed will be providing a BBQ (gold coin donation) and there will be a stall or two as well. Members with pets are encouraged to participate.
  • Some DATES:
    • Spring Clean-Up of the Shed inside & out — Thursday 26th October 9:30 am – Hope you can come down and assist for a couple of hours. Let Paul L’Huillier know if you can be there – Mob: 0400 056 247.
    • Rotary Garage Sale — Saturday November 4th, 2017. The Shed again will have a site. If you have items that you would like to donate to the Shed for resale please leave at the Shed. This sale is another important fundraiser for the Shed.
    • Christmas Luncheon — Wednesday 6th December, 2017 at 12 noon in the Alex McCullough Hall (next to the Shed). It’s only $12.00 (pay at the door) –  please bring the correct money. More details to come.
    • No BBQ in November.

— Shed Operating Days & Times —
Tuesday & Wednesday 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Morning tea is at 10:30 am and is a great time to
social and to get to know the other men. Gold coin donation thank you.
The Lunch break is at 12:30 pm. You are most welcome.

Probus Talk Cancelled & AFL on the ‘Big Screen’

October 9, 2017 By Paul L'Huillier

The Probus Club had invited Shed members to a talk by the National Heart Foundation at the Alex McCullough this Wednesday 11th October but the speaker is now unavailable so the talk has been cancelled.

AFL Grand Final at the Shed — We had 15 members for the viewing on the 65″ TV screen. Only one true ‘Adelaide Crow’ supporter and no Richmond, the rest were barracking for either the Tigers or the Crows. Ian Erbacher won the prize as he picked the Richmond Tigers to win, was closest to the winning Tiger margin and picked Dustin Martin to win the ‘Norm Smith Medal’ for best on the ground. The only thing he missed on was ‘the first goal scorer’ (Rory Sloane-Crows). Thanks to Mark and Maureen Hardidge who provide the ‘treats’ at half time.

Next Monthly BBQ & General Meeting — Friday 20th October from 11:30 am.

Some of the members enjoying the viewing
