Shed New Opening Days & Times from September

Important Shed News

Changed Days & Times from Tuesday 6th September 

  • Tuesday: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm — Supervisors: Mark Hardidge or Warwick Mitchell or Reg Hollond
  • Wednesday: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm — Supervisors: Dick Puttyfoot or John Driver or Irvin Beeston

Note: The three Supervisors decide who is on duty that day via a roster they workout between themselves.

Note: Shed will not be open on Thursdays as previous.

The Friday 23rd September BBQ is associated with Prostate Awareness Month. We have a local, Bob Flower, who has just been treated for Prostate Cancer to talk about his experience. This health issue applies to all men so make a point to come and learn about the issues.

The Annual General Meeting will be on Friday 21st October 2016 at the Shed (not in September as previous).

Our Annual Christmas Luncheon will be on Wednesday 7th December at the Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre’s – Alex McCullough Hall.

Projects recently finished, still in progress or to start 

  1. Boat is completed and in place, free of charge, at the Lakeview Children’s Centre. A big project ably lead by Ray Connelly and assisted by Les, Len, Ray McD and Bob.
  2. 34 Chicken Nest Boxes are completed thanks to Warwick and Ian.
  3. Children’s Sink is completed and installed, free of charge, at the Lakeview Children’s Centre. Thanks Mal and Jordan.
  4. Making up and fitting of a metal bracket to hold gas bottle on a Ride-On-Mobility-Scooter. Thanks Les and Dick.
  5. Rocking Chair is ready for reassembling and a final Polyurethane finish. Thanks Roland and Jordan.
  6. Flag Pole is ready to be inserted into the ground. Thanks Les and Warwick and to the Green Army for assistance with the hole digging (it’s a deep hole).
  7. Three more Deer Guards are finished and ready for transport to the Arboretum. Thanks Les and Dick. Another four to be made.
  8. Knife Block. Looking for a worker to make this.
  9. Chairs x2 repaired are finished with another 4 to repair. Volunteers for this job needed.
  10. Intention Boxes for Parks Victoria – cut out ready for Green Army assembling and painting. Marine Ply and paint provided by Parks. Warwick has the work in hand.
  11. Construct a Metal Storage Cage for the top of the Green Army Trailer. Looking for a welder.
  12. Fitting large wheels to the NH Centre food trolly so it can be wheeled to the Primary School canteen. Dick has this in hand.

No Committee Meeting or BBQ in July.

The Annual General Meeting will be on 21st October 2016 (not in September as previous)

Dederang Mt Beauty Football & Netball Club Home Games. The Shed collects the entry for the Club and we sell raffle tickets to raise Shed funds. There are three remaining home games – 23rd July, 6th & 13th August. If you can assist our Shed co-ordinator Mark Hardidge with any of the remaining games please give him a call on mobile: 0407 549 651 or email <maurk01@bigpond.com>.

Major Shed Projects — Three Shed projects are nearing completion.

  1. Playground Decking Seat (weather has been against completing this as its been too wet for machine access to the site on the newly laid grass). Rod Hyde started this project for the Alpine Shire. He had to return to Canberra so Dick Puttyfoot has taken on the leaders role. Main workers on this project have been: Les Bevan, Ian Erbacher, Warwick Mitchell, Len Sims , Mark Hardidge, Ian Howley and Paul L’Huillier.
  2. Boat for the Lake View Childcare Centre — Project lead by Ray Connelly and his team: Len Sims, Bob Ferris, Ray McDonald and Les Bevan
  3. An framework built to support an outside sink for the Lake View Childcare Centre. Mal Darwent is working on this.

Recent Projects Completed

  1. Skiing Kangaroo Souvenirs for the Kangaroo Hoppet organisation. 22 made by Roland Passuallo.
  2. Clocks and weather instruments built into redgum blocks. Three made by Ken Halse.
  3. Deer Guards for the Friends of the Clover Arboretum. Two made with eight more to complete. Dick Puttyfoot is leading this large project.

Elder Abuse Day event in the Kiewa Valley – Thur 16th June

The number of older people in the Alpine Shire is rapidly increasing.

Alpine Health and Alpine Shire Council are wishing to promote Awareness of Elder Abuse in the community and what can be done to stop it, both as individuals and as a community.

To promote this awareness Mr Gary Ferguson, Community Eduction Coordinator – Seniors Rights Victoria has been invited to conduct a community information session on Elder Abuse and the role of Seniors Rights Victoria. The session will be followed by afternoon tea.

The invitation is extended to all Shed members.

• Date: Thursday 16th June 2016.
• Time: 2 pm
• Location: Lakeside Community Health Centre, Mt Beauty (opposite the Fire Station).

Invitation from Probus Club of Mt Beauty

The Men’s Shed members have been invited to attend a talk organised by the Probus  Club of Mount Beauty on Wednesday 8th June 2016 at the Tawonga Hall.

The guest speaker, Rebecca Carne from the Law firm, Nevin, Lenne & 
Gross will talk about power of attorney, wills, estate management and other issues that are of interest to our members. There have been significant changes in recent times to the power of attorney provisions and these can be quite complicated. Rebecca will be happy to answer questions on any legal topic that may be of concern.

Nevin, Lenne & 
Gross is a regional law firm with offices in Myrtleford, Wangaratta, Shepparton, Wodonga, Bright & Mt Beauty.

  • Entry is $5.00 and includes morning tea.
  • Probus starts its General Meeting at 10:00 am followed by morning tea at approximately 10:30 am. The guest speaker’s talk starts at 11:00 am.

The Tawonga Red Cross Branch invites you to this ‘High Tea at Noon’ which will include savoury and sweet finger food.

Come and support the Annual Red Cross Luncheon starting at 12 noon Monday 16th May 2016 at the Tawonga Hall. All proceeds to go to Red Cross Appeals.

Raffle: A raffle with great prizes will be conducted.
