BBQ Lunch/General Meeting – Friday 17th August 2018

  • When:Friday 17th August 2018
  • Start Time: 11:30 am for a 12 noon sit down BBQ .
  • Where: The Shed – 2 Tennis Court Ave Mount Beauty
  • Cost: $7/person
  • Who is invited: Members, potential members & visitors.

Program:
• BBQ — Our Chef de Shed Mark Hardidge is back. Again the Shed will be providing many BBQ delights. There will be the usual socialising, camaraderie and fellowship. 

Note — The early start will allow for Shed inspection, project updates, demonstrations
and general chit chat on all things to do with the Shed.
Food will be served at 12 noon.


Major Shed News

  • Henty Field Day Visit — The Shed is organising a one day visit to this major rural event for Wednesday 19th September 2018. The plan is to self-drive a 12 seater bus departing Mount Beauty at 6:30 am to be in Henty at 8:30 am. Leaving Henty at ~2:00 pm. Cost — $44.00/member including entry. Shed will pay for the bus fuel costs. If we took a 21 seater bus then the cost would be $36.00/member.   • Pick My Project needs your vote — Various Community Groups have put up five Mount Beauty Projects and one Falls Creek Project for this Victorian Government Funding Program. Projects need your vote if some of them are going to ‘get up’. Click [HERE] to vote. Note: You need to register on the website to vote and you must vote for at least 3 projects. The committee is keen on the ‘Pebble Beach’ Walking Track Extension. Please make an effort to have your vote.
  • Code of Conduct Policy — The Shed has developed a Code of Conduct Policy which all members are required to be aware of. Click [HERE] to view. Thanks to Brian Keeble who developed the policy which was ratified by the committee at Mondays meeting.
  • Donate to help drought-affected farming communities & families — Click [HERE] to donate via Red Cross.
  • Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up on Friday 21st September 2018. There will be a couple of vacancies on the committee so please consider volunteering for the 2018/19 committee.

Shed Operating Days & Times — Tuesday & Wednesday 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Morning tea is at 10:30 am and is a great time to social and to get to know the other men. Gold coin donation thank you. The Lunch break is at ~12:30 pm. You are most welcome.

Latest Shed News – August 2018

  1. Dederang Mt Beauty Football/Netball Gate — this Saturday is the Shed’s last home game manning of the ‘gate’. Dick still needs a couple of helpers. Please contact him if available. Mob: 0417 836 841‬ or Email <richardputtyfoot@gmail.com>.
  2. Shed Extension Project — Ian Howley has had the plans professionally drawn up by Mountain Creek Architecture and has submitted the Planning Permit to the Alpine Shire. Things are happening.
  3. Current Projects — Refurbishing a Hospital Seat (Warwick, Mark, Shane & Paul), constructing an external cabinet to house the BBQ (Mal, Warwick & Larry), reconditioning an air compressor & petrol driven drill (Rod), making signs for Parks Vic on the CNC Router (Simon, Roland & Dick), bike repairs (Mark), repairing an old outside seat for Shed use (Ian E, Warwick & Paul), producing an item that can be used as a desktop display (Roland), repairing a table for resale by the Hospital Opp Shop (Warwick) and working on some personal projects on the wood lathe (Derek). An ongoing job is to relocate all our metal and steel from the Lions Storage Shed to our new Metal Rack on the western side of the Shed.
  4. Cutting Kindling for Sale — this is a joint project between the Hospital Opp Shop and the Shed (Ian E & Ian S).

Alpine Health – Get a Good Night’s Sleep Seminar: Mon 23rd July in Bright

Community Project — Replacing the seating around the Pondage is a partnership project between the Men’s Shed, UKV Lions Club and AGL Energy. Rod Hyde is leading this project.

Community Project — Erecting a bike rack outside the Senior Citizens Clubrooms. Project workers have been Ian Howley (welding), Warwick Mitchel & Paul L’Huillier (installation).

• New Shed Extension — The Draft Plans will be displayed and discussed on the ‘Big Screen’ following the meal. As a member it will be an opportunity to have your say.

and general chit chat on all things to do with the Shed.
Food will be served at 12 noon.


Major Shed News

  • Football/Netball Gate volunteers — One more home game to go — Saturday August 4th at Dederang. We need more members to collect entry money and sell raffle tickets  (a major Shed fundraiser for our NEW extensions). Please contact the co-ordinator Dick Puttyfoot if you can assist: Mob: 0417 836 841‬ or Email: <richardputtyfoot@gmail.com>. Please consider volunteering.
  • Metal Storage Rack — An old tobacco rack donated by Ezio Minitello has been restored/altered and located on the west side of the Shed to store all our metal. Thanks to welders Reg Hollonds, Dick Puttyfoot and Warwick Mitchell.
  • Tree Removal — The two large trees between the Shed and NH Centre have been removed because of their poor health and the danger of falling branches. Thanks Alpine Shire.

Working Bee dismantling Primary School ‘Fort’

The Mt Beauty Primary School approached the Men’s Shed via member Brian Keeble, who is also on the PS Council, to see if we could dismantle the old playground ‘Fort’. In return we could keep any timber and metal that was salvaged some of which is in good condition.

Thanks to the following members who assisted with the job today — 10th July 2018: Brian Keeble (co-ordinator), Dick Puttyfoot, Ian Howley, Mark Hardidge, Rod Hyde, John Driver, Warwick Mitchell, Derek Hutton, Ian Erbacher and Paul L’Huillier. Also thanks to Rod Hyde for supplying the photos.
