Shed Re-Opening Tuesday 16th January 9:30 am

January 12, 2018 By Paul L'Huillier

Shed Re-Opens — After a break of four weeks the Shed will re-open this Tuesday 16th January at 9:30 am.

Funeral for Richard Driver — Our condolences go out to John and Jan Driver on the death of their son Richard in a tragic car accident on Damms Road last week. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 16th January at 10:30 am at Lester & Son Funeral Directors, 49 Thomas Mitchell Drive, Wodonga.

Monthly BBQ Price Increase — The price of the monthly BBQ has remained at $5.00 for six years i.e. since the first BBQ the Shed conducted. At the October ’17 committee meeting it was moved to increase the fee by $2.00 starting with the February 2018 BBQ. So fee is now $7.00.

Kitchen/Recreation Room & Toilet Cleaning — The committee have decided that members who are regular attendees on work days or committee members will be placed on a Shed Cleaning Roster which starts this coming week. Two people are rostered on each week. The Roster does not include cleaning the workshop area as each member is responsible for cleaning up his work space at the end of the day. Members will be emailed a Roster and there is a paper copy to pick up at the Shed.

Christmas Luncheon – a terrific function

December 8, 2017 By Paul L'Huillier

Last Wednesday we had 59 people attend the Annual Christmas Luncheon. This is the second year it has been held at the Alex McCullough Hall and we thank the Neighbourhood Centre for letting us use it and their well fitted out kitchen.

Our Chef de Shed Mark Hardidge had the food ordering and preparation well in hand. His helpers of Maureen Hardidge, Rod Hyde and Kerrie gave great support. The set-up team was on hand early to prepare the Hall. Thanks to all the assisted then and also for the clean-up at the end.

Our resident Bush Poet, Irvin Beeston, entertained us with a recital of four poems. Irvin’s poems are now a fixture of most functions the Shed organises. Thanks Irvin.

Warwick Mitchell made a beautiful coffee table of Alpine Ash which was auctioned off. Thanks Warwick.

Elene Wood made a beautiful Cake in the shape of our Men’s Shed. She put hours into the design and preparation. Thanks Elene. Fantastic. Elene has a cake making business and if you are after one for any occasion give her a call Mob: 0409 6753 192.

The three door prizes offered where appreciated.

Presentations — Three were made — Achievement Award to Mark Hardidge (Chef de Shed & Football/Netball Gate Raffle co-ordinator), a lovely bunch of flowers to Maureen Hardidge for all the support she gives Mark on Monthly BBQ days and as cashier for the Football/Netball Gate Raffle, and a Participation Award to young Billy Vasiliades for his contribution this year.

Tawonga Red Cross appeal for Myanmar Crisis

December 2, 2017 By Paul L'Huillier

The plight of the Rohingan people in Myanmar is horrible. More than 600,000 persecuted Rohingan muslims have fled over the Bangladesh border. The Australian Red Cross has volunteer staff attending the refugee centre, providing safe drinking water, food and toilets.

Tawonga Red Cross branch is raising funds for the Red Cross Myanmar Crisis Appeal. The Australian Government will match dollar-for-dollar all money donated by December 9th (next Saturday). Tawonga Branch will forward every dollar we receive to the Australian Red Cross appeal on Thursday.

If you are able to make a donation to this appeal, please do one of the following, as soon as possible:

1. Go into the Mt Beauty Community Bank in Hollonds St and make a donation into the Tawonga Red Cross account. Ask the teller to record a reference of ‘Myanmar’.

2. Do an online transfer into the Tawonga Red Cross account BSB 633 000, account 156 761 835, with the reference ‘Myanmar’

3. Go directly to the Red Cross appeal: https://www.redcross.org.au/myanmar-crisis-appeal and donate by credit card.

Thank-you to the very generous people who gave me donations at yesterday’s U3A lunch. I have your official receipts which I will give you soon.
